PSC calendar lists 2026-27 election dates and candidacy review timing

The first listed event is New Brunswick’s municipal election on May 11, 2026. The calendar then moves into summer municipal votes in Manitoba communities, with the Village of Dunnottar, Rural Municipality of Victoria Beach and Town of Winnipeg Beach listed for July 24, followed by Prince Edward Island’s Resort Municipality election on Aug. 10.

The fall schedule includes Quebec’s provincial election on Oct. 5, British Columbia’s municipal election on Oct. 17 and the City of Yellowknife municipal election in the Northwest Territories on Oct. 19. Ontario’s municipal election is listed for Oct. 26, Manitoba’s municipal election for Oct. 28 and Prince Edward Island’s municipal election for Nov. 2.

Additional 2026 dates include Saskatchewan rural municipalities in even-numbered divisions on Nov. 9 and Northwest Territories hamlet elections on Dec. 14.

The 2027 portion of the calendar is concentrated in October. Prince Edward Island’s provincial election is listed for Oct. 4, followed by Manitoba’s provincial election and the Northwest Territories territorial election on Oct. 5. Alberta’s provincial election is listed for Oct. 18, the same date as Northwest Territories municipal elections.

Nunavut’s municipal election is listed for Oct. 25, 2027.

For people preparing a political candidacy request for permission, the calendar points to the “I want to become a candidate” process and form. The PSC says it will issue a written decision within 30 days after receiving a duly completed request.
