Toronto will require most ride-share and taxi pickups near World Cup events to use designated zones during match and Fan Festival periods.
Toronto is setting required taxi and ride-share pickup zones around FIFA World Cup 2026 events, a move aimed at controlling traffic and crowds in Fort York and Liberty Village during match days and FIFA Fan Festival Toronto dates.
The rules run with the city’s World Cup event schedule from June 10 to July 19, including Toronto match days at Toronto Stadium and Fan Festival operations. The City of Toronto says vehicle traffic will be significantly limited during the tournament, with public transit, walking and cycling positioned as the preferred ways to travel.
For pickups, the city says ride-share apps will direct users to designated locations because geofencing will be in effect. Except for accessibility purposes, pickups must take place at those zones only.
The designated ride-share and taxi pickup and drop-off locations listed by the city are Lamport Stadium, Douro Street, Front Street West and Bathurst Street, and Stadium Road. Lamport Stadium is listed for Toronto match days only. Douro Street and Front Street West at Bathurst Street are listed for all match and Fan Festival days. Stadium Road is listed for Fan Festival days, but not Toronto match days.
The restrictions apply on all Toronto match days from five hours before kickoff until up to three hours after the match ends. On FIFA Fan Festival days, the city says the rules apply daily in the Fort York area from one hour before gates open until one hour after gates close.
Toronto’s six scheduled match days are June 12, June 17, June 20, June 23, June 26 and July 2. Separate road closures and restrictions are scheduled on those days, with times ranging from morning or afternoon starts through evening or midnight, depending on the match. The city notes that all times are approximate and subject to change.
The pickup-zone plan is part of a wider set of local access, transit and parking measures for Fort York and Liberty Village. Local access passes are planned for residents, employers and employees, while road restrictions are intended to limit pass-through traffic and parking pressure in the neighbourhoods.
Residents, employers and employees may still be dropped off closer to their destinations, including residential addresses, according to the city. But for most pickups, visitors and locals should expect to use the designated zones and plan around higher pedestrian volumes, transit changes and reduced vehicle access throughout the event period.
