The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are developing a Netflix feature film based on a true story of British troops under siege during the Afghanistan war.

The project, through the couple’s production company Archewell, will adapt No Way Out , a 2019 book by Major Adam Jowett. Jowett led soldiers who defended a compound in Musa Qala, a Taliban stronghold in Helmand province, against repeated attacks in 2006.

Prince Harry and Meghan will serve as co-producers on the film. The subject is a personal one for Harry, who served in the British Army for 10 years until 2015 and completed two tours of duty in Afghanistan.

Harry has remained closely associated with veterans’ causes since leaving the military, including through the Invictus Games, which he launched for wounded, injured and sick service personnel. Earlier this year, after US President Donald Trump made contentious remarks suggesting allies including the UK stayed “a little back” from the front lines in Afghanistan, Harry said: “I served there. I made lifelong friends there. And I lost friends there.” Trump later praised UK troops on Truth Social as being “among the greatest of all warriors.”

The script for the No Way Out adaptation is being written by Matt Charman, who received an Oscar nomination in 2016 for co-writing Steven Spielberg’s Cold War drama Bridge of Spies . The book’s publisher describes Jowett’s account as “powerful, highly-charged and moving.”

The film adds to the Sussexes’ continuing slate with Netflix. They are also producing an adaptation of Jasmine Guillory’s The Wedding Date and a drama set in the world of polo, following a docuseries they made about the sport.

The couple’s Netflix arrangement changed last year after their previous contract ended. It was replaced by a first-look deal, giving Netflix first refusal on new proposed shows from Harry and Meghan. No release date or casting details for the No Way Out film have been announced in the supplied report.
