Amazon MGM Studios says the search for the next James Bond is underway, with auditions reported and key creative roles already set for the 26th official film.
The search for the next James Bond has formally begun, Amazon MGM Studios said, moving the long-running film franchise closer to naming the actor who will replace Daniel Craig as 007.
“The search for the next James Bond is under way,” the studio said in a statement, adding that it does not plan to discuss specific details while casting is in progress. The confirmation follows years of speculation since Craig’s final Bond film, No Time To Die , was released five years ago.
Auditions have taken place in recent weeks, Variety reported, according to the BBC. The casting decision is one of the most closely watched in film: the successful actor would become the seventh official performer to play Bond across the franchise’s 64-year history.
Several names are already circulating among bookmakers and industry watchers. Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson are among those described as frontrunners. Other frequently mentioned contenders include Henry Cavill, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James, though the studio has not confirmed any candidates.
The next Bond film has already begun to take shape behind the camera. Amazon MGM Studios has announced that Denis Villeneuve, director of Dune , will direct, and Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders , will write the screenplay. Amy Pascal and David Heyman are set to co-produce.
Amazon MGM Studios took control of the Bond franchise 15 months ago, and studio executives have stressed that the transition will be handled cautiously. Speaking at CinemaCon last month, Amazon MGM Studios head of film Courtenay Valenti said the team was taking its time “with care and deep respect” and called the next chapter “a responsibility we don’t take lightly.”
No plot details, wider casting, production timetable or release date have been announced for the 26th official Bond movie. The studio said it would share more with 007 fans “as soon as the time is right,” leaving the identity of the next Bond as the franchise’s central unanswered question.
