Stormzy, Wretch 32 and other figures from the UK music scene have paid tribute to Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Talay Riley after he died following a stabbing in east London.

Riley, 35, whose real name was Mark Orabiyi, was found with stab wounds in a garden on Rayleigh Road in Silvertown shortly after 09:00 BST on 5 June. He was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

The musician had worked on tracks for artists including Dua Lipa, Zendaya, Khalid, Flo and Chipmunk. His credits included work on Khalid’s “Young Dumb & Broke,” The Chainsmokers’ “Who Do You Love,” HER’s “Lights On,” Flo’s “Walk Like This” and Kehlani’s “Out The Window.”

Wretch 32 remembered Orabiyi in a message to his family, writing: “Your brother was a gem & will be missed & never forgotten.” Stormzy also sent condolences, commenting “I’m sorry bro” on an Instagram post by Orabiyi’s brother, Michael Orabiyi, the producer and songwriter known professionally as Scribz Riley.

In that post, Michael Orabiyi wrote that his heart was “shattered” and described his brother as a friend, mentor and inspiration whose music and kindness had reached many people. Oritse Williams of JLS and Keisha Buchanan of Sugababes were also among those who sent condolences.

The Metropolitan Police said a second victim, a man in his 20s, was treated for multiple stab wounds. His injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing, police said.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of murdering Orabiyi. A 27-year-old man has been released on bail pending further inquiries, while a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman have been released with no further action.

Det Ch Insp Joanna Yorke said the investigation was continuing “at pace” and appealed for anyone in the area at the time to contact police. Investigators are particularly seeking CCTV or other footage from the morning of the incident that could assist the inquiry.
