Owain Rhys Davies, who played Agent Wilson in the Twin Peaks revival, has died at 44, with his family and arts colleagues paying tribute.

Owain Rhys Davies, the Cardiff-born actor best known to many viewers as Agent Wilson in the 2017 revival of Twin Peaks , has died at 44.

His brother Rhodri said on Instagram that Davies died “suddenly, naturally, and peacefully.” He said the family was “incredibly proud” of him and took comfort in knowing how widely he was loved.

Rhodri also said there were “questions that remain unanswered regarding the circumstances of his death” and asked for privacy for the family.

Davies appeared in David Lynch and Mark Frost’s return to Twin Peaks , the revival of the influential 1990s series that aired in 2017. His other screen credits included the Netflix science-fiction drama The OA , alongside Brit Marling and Jason Isaacs, as well as Alice Through the Looking Glass and the horror satire A Serial Killer’s Guide to Life.

The official Twin Peaks Instagram account paid tribute to Davies, saying: “Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all those who knew and loved him.” The message added: “Thank you for being a part of the world of Twin Peaks, Agent Wilson.”

The Welsh National Theatre also remembered Davies as “a remarkable talent” whose work contributed to Welsh theatre and screen. In its statement, the theatre said his “passion, creativity, and dedication to his craft made a lasting impact on the cultural life of Wales.”

“The Welsh performing arts community is poorer for his loss,” the statement said, adding in Welsh: “Cysga’n dawel, Owain.”
