Michael Bloomberg was unharmed after Knicks guard Jose Alvarado dove into the courtside seats during NBA Finals Game 3 at Madison Square Garden.
Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was unharmed after New York Knicks guard Jose Alvarado tumbled into the courtside seats while chasing a loose ball during Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden on Monday night.
The ball bounced toward Bloomberg during the second half, with San Antonio leading by four and 10:36 left in the game. Alvarado dove after it and nearly landed on the 84-year-old former mayor before checking to make sure he was all right. Bloomberg appeared to wave off assistance from sideline personnel, and comedian Dave Chappelle also came over to check on him.
The close call became a courtside flashpoint in a game that gave the Spurs their first win of the series. San Antonio beat New York 115-111 behind Victor Wembanyama, who finished with 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks and two steals.
Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 32 points, five assists and five rebounds. Alvarado, who was involved in the loose-ball sequence, scored four points in 12 minutes off the bench.
Game 4 is scheduled for Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks and Spurs will return after a tightly contested Game 3 and an unexpected scare along the sideline.
