Lizzo told CBS Mornings she is releasing a new album June 5 while continuing to fight unresolved claims in a lawsuit filed by former backup dancers.

Lizzo is preparing to release a new album June 5 while continuing to fight a lawsuit filed by three former backup dancers, telling CBS Mornings that she is focused on returning to music and contesting allegations she says are untrue.

In an interview with co-host Gayle King, the four-time Grammy winner said the album is titled Bitch , a word she framed as part of a broader effort to turn a term historically used against women into something empowering. The title track samples Meredith Brooks’ feminist anthem Bitch and Missy Elliott’s She’s a Bitch.

The release comes as Lizzo remains in a yearslong legal dispute. In 2023, three former backup dancers sued the singer, alleging a hostile work environment and sexual harassment during her world tour. One dancer also alleged she was shamed for her weight; that allegation was ultimately dismissed.

Some sexual harassment claims remain, including an allegation that Lizzo pressured dancers to engage with nude performers at a burlesque club in Amsterdam. Lizzo is appealing that ruling and said she will not settle the case.

“I’m fighting the case because I know that it’s not true,” she told King. Because the case is ongoing, Lizzo said she could not discuss details, but added, “The truth is less salacious than the headlines.”

The interview also revisited a project that was put on hold last year. Lizzo had been set to release another album, Love in Real Life , but after two singles did not reach the Billboard charts, the project was delayed indefinitely. Lizzo said the decision was hers and described learning to put less pressure on herself as she continued making music for fans.

She also addressed public attention around her weight loss, saying she had released anxiety, depression and weight from her body. Lizzo said she is not trying to become skinny and, responding to rumors about weight-loss medications, said her recent weight loss came through a calorie deficit, cardio and protein. She said she tried a GLP-1 drug years ago but that it did not work for her.

Looking ahead, Lizzo said she hopes to tour again soon. For now, the next milestone is the June 5 album release, while the remaining legal claims continue through the courts.
