Mis-Teeq are reuniting for a Wembley Arena show tied to the 25th anniversary of their debut album, with future dates or new music still unclear.

Mis-Teeq are returning for their first proper gig in two decades, announcing a London reunion show to mark 25 years since their debut album, Lickin’ on Both Sides.

The trio — Alesha Dixon, Su-Elise Nash and Sabrina Washington — will play Wembley Arena on 12 September in a one-night comeback built around the noughties group’s UK garage and R&B catalogue, including hits such as Scandalous and One Night Stand.

The reunion lands as music from the 1990s and 2000s continues to find a new audience online, while older fans revisit the era that helped push UK garage from underground scenes into the mainstream. Mis-Teeq sold more than 12 million records, won a Mobo for best garage act in 2002 and were nominated for a Brit Award.

Dixon told BBC Newsbeat that the idea grew from discussions about a limited-edition version of the debut album, but the comeback ultimately “started in the WhatsApp group.” She said the band felt they should do something bigger for the anniversary after years of requests from fans.

Nash said the response had surprised the group, describing support from fans, the public and the music industry as overwhelming. At home, she said, her life now looks very different from the band’s original run, joking that her son did not know she had been in a singing group until recently.

Mis-Teeq emerged at a time when UK garage was becoming one of Britain’s defining pop sounds, alongside acts including Craig David, So Solid Crew and Ms. Dynamite. The group’s formula paired R&B vocals with Dixon’s rapid-fire raps over two-step and garage beats.

Dixon described garage as a homegrown British movement and said she was proud Mis-Teeq had been among the women in a scene often viewed as male-dominated. Washington said the group sensed the sound was connecting when the garage version of their debut single Why took off, adding that the songs still endure.

The Wembley show is being billed as “One Night Stand with Mis-Teeq.” It remains unclear whether the group will add more dates or release new music, but Nash said the band want the September concert to be “a big rave,” with energy and fun rather than the pressure that surrounded their earlier career.

The reunion also revives one of Mis-Teeq’s most memorable trademarks: Dixon’s ad libs. She told Newsbeat they came from freestyling in the studio and clarified that her famous “enter” hype line sometimes sounded like “inter” simply because of what came out in the moment.

For now, the confirmed return is a single Wembley date, giving fans a chance to see the group together again after a split that followed their record label’s bankruptcy in 2005.
