Stellantis is recalling nearly 1.08 million Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators in the U.S. over a fire risk tied to power steering pump wiring.
Stellantis is recalling nearly 1.08 million Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators in the United States because of a potential fire hazard that federal regulators say can occur even when the vehicles are parked and turned off.
The recall covers model years 2021 through 2025. Stellantis, Chrysler’s parent company, notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the recall, according to a CBS News report citing federal regulators and the automaker.
The company told CBS News the issue involves a possible electrical connection problem in the wiring for the electric hydraulic power steering pump. In rare cases, Stellantis said, the problem may cause combustible materials to overheat and potentially lead to a vehicle fire.
Stellantis said it is advising owners “to park away from structures or other vehicles until the remedy is obtained.” NHTSA said the fires could happen even with the ignition switched off.
Affected customers are expected to be notified by first-class mail when they can schedule service. Stellantis said it is working to make a remedy available and anticipates a solution no later than July.
The recall also includes about 253,000 additional vehicles in Canada, Mexico and outside North America, according to Stellantis. Owners of affected Jeeps should watch for the mailed recall notice and follow the parking guidance until the repair is available.
